Tips To Stay Hydrated

Good to Know

Our bodies are composed of more than 60% water. It is recommended to drink half your body weight in oz. (even more if you’re expecting!). For example: If you weigh 150lbs, aim to drink 75oz of water every day.

Because our bodies absorb only 2-4oz of water per drink, it’s more effective to drink small sips throughout the day as opposed to chugging a lot of water at once. If you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated!

Did you know your body loses water through breathing? About one cup of water per day is expended on breathing alone (multiple that by 4 when breathing heavily during strenuous activity!). Restorative breathing throughout the day can help minimize dehydration — try employing deep belly breaths.

Tips to Stay Hydrated

  1. Set a goal to drink one glass of water first thing in the morning to wake up. Add a little squeeze of lemon if you like!

  2. Keeping a water bottle with you all day long encourages you to drink more throughout the day — remember to take small sips to make the most of your water intake.

  3. Eat hydrating foods: coconut water, avocado, leafy green vegetables, and some fruits are all excellent choices!

  4. Have you tried a reminder app? There are many apps available that will send you alerts throughout the day to remind you drink water. Learn more here.

  5. Add electrolytes to your routine. For optimal health, your body needs a certain amount of electrolytes each day. Electrolytes, or charged minerals like sodium, phosphorous, and potassium, might remind you of Gatorade or other sports drinks. While these beverages are often saturated with sugar or high fructose corn syrup, drink mixes like Hydrate or ATP Ignite are great options, offered in a variety of flavors for every taste with no added sweeteners.

  6. Invest in a good water filter. Many water filters take out much needed minerals and vitamins, like magnesium and calcium. Your ideal water filter should remove harmful chemicals like chlorine, but leave all the essential nutrients your body needs to thrive. We love Water Marque Filters.
