Got Stress?
Stress has been gradually imbedded into EVERYONE’s everyday life over the past few decades. Our modern lifestyles do catch up with us.
There are many ways we encounter stress. Whether it’s our busy schedules, extended screen time, even our lack of sleep. Stressors are all around us and affect our health on a daily basis.
There are two types of stress: ACUTE and CHRONIC.
Acute stress is much like running from a tiger. We release our stress hormones (flight or flight response) which increases heart rate and shunts blood to our muscles to ‘run for our lives’. The key thing here is we run to safety and thankfully return to a relaxed state.
Chronic Stress is when our stressors continually bombard us multiple times a day, everyday, never get a chance to recover and return to normal. This means we are shunting blood away from vital organs like our GI system, burn excessive amounts of energy leaving us more deprived stunning our healing capacity even more. As you can see, this becomes a slippery slope that needs a pause, giving us a chance to regroup and heal.
Big problems eventually do catch up with us and can cause multiple health concerns.
Here are a few common ways chronic stress can affect us
Systemic Inflammation
Fatigue, Weight Gain
High Blood Pressure
Mood Swings
Malabsorption/GI issues
Poor sleep
